It is a Lifestyle Choice – are you pro – “choice”?

Though “sexual orientation” is 8 whole syllables, you’re not really allowed to call it a “lifestyle choice”. You’ve heard your gay or college-aged friends insist, “Being gay is not a lifestyle!”

If I’d known it was a choice, I’d have chosen this one!

Heck, you may have heard me crow this when I thought you weren’t listening. But they (and I) were wrong.

Being actually gay-identified is a lifestyle choice. The question is: are you pro-“choice”?

Protectors of Marriage – Best of the Best

There are those who live out their own lives as quiet examples of virtue.

And there are those who stand and lead courageously in a battle for morality, tradition, and honor in matrimony. As our nation’s righteous beat back an aggressive onslaught against traditional marriage, let us honor the bravest and truest protectors of marriage, and draw inspiration from the Best of the Best.

Behold, the Best of the Best.
You may ask, “What source of greatness do these men have in common?”
Is it that they bared their souls before their maker as they were Born Again? Is it a humble appreciation for the women who have given so much to support their success?

Please take a moment to honor these men and to examine their work and their lives.

Did more to protect marriage than you think.

Did more to protect marriage than you (or Fox News) would generally think.

Legislative Protections:
Defense of Marriage Act – Just because radical Iowa okays sinful marriage doesn’t mean that decent Californians need to honor it!

Don’t Ask Don’t Tell – doesn’t specifically protect marriage, but does make sure that our soldiers don’t “flaunt it” :
– no “spousal” benefits
– no disgusting “welcome home” displays of affection.

51-plus years of committed relationships:
– 39 year marriage with Hillary Clinton
– 12 year relationship with Gennifer Flowers.

Achieved
American Conservative Union lifetime score of 95!

Demanded Clinton’s impeachment following the president’s sexual scandal, labeling this “reprehensible”.

Well-rounded:

Likes hiking and international travel.

Not a clod, he truly appreciates a woman, not merely for being a good wife and mother, but also for being his soulmate, and is not ashamed to admit it.

As handsome as Sarah Palin is pretty, he has an air of being loved by God.

Restraint in several other extramarital dalliances: “never crossed the ultimate line“.

Straight-shooter, honest, role mode.

John Ensign: Straight-shooter, honest, role model.

Morals and Ethics:
Publicly called for Larry Craig’s resignation, after Craig’s homosexual airport arrest scandal.

Stood strong against gay marriage.

With his wife, were active Promise Keepers, members of a Christian evangelical ministry for strong families, strong marriages, and sexual purity.

An inspiration
to others who must come clean and repent.

Larry Craig of Idaho, an awful mistake.

Larry Craig of Idaho, an unfortunate mistunderstanding.

Publicly chastised Bill Clinton, on behalf of his constiutents, calling Clinton a “bad, naughty boy”.

Rated 100% by the Christian Coalition: a pro-family voting record.

Voted:
– YES on a US Constitutional ban of same-sex marriage.
– YES on prohibiting same-sex marriage

You’re Not Doing Enough

I’ve become convinced in the last few days that we – gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender Californians, and our allies, are not doing nearly enough to protect our basic equality,

Make a promise - vow to vote No on 8.

Make a promise - vow to vote No on 8.

our very basic rights.

Nowhere near enough.

Yesterday a straight friend/acquaintance, a mom of a child who went to the same daycare as mine did, was inspired by the No-on-8 bumper-stickers I was making and giving out, and she made her own, MUCH MORE provocative than mine, put it on her car, and advertised it to all her friends.
(Marriage is for Fags! No on 8)

OMG, like it or not, hate it or not, if many more had her passion, I’d see a bumper sticker or 2 in my favor on the 50-min traffic-packed ride to work, for goodness’ sake! Continue reading

I’d prefer that you order them, but I will send a couple to you if you’d like.
And check this out – from a creative reader:

I copied the “Do unto others” on a window decal on my inkjet printer and put it on my car. I am so sick of the happy go lucky Yes on 8 bumperstickers that I have seen and want revenge!
Window decals can be had at any paper section of Best Buy or probably Tatget. They stick to windows or bumpers.

Blame the Gays

Marriage is failing.
I hear it’s because of the gays.

  1. “If we let homosexuals marry, next comes polygamy”
    • Hey: Don’t blame polygamy on the gays – blame polygamists: blame FLDS; blame Islam; blame Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. We gays are still working on the basic one-on-one thing.
(BTW, polygamists don’t get divorced at the same rate the rest of you do.)
  2. “Next, people will marry their pets”
    • Again, that’s your weirdness, not ours. We want to marry people like ourselves, hence the term homosexual.
    • Want to see something really creepy? Do a google search on “marry your dog”. I am serious.
    • I heard a male Ivy-League college student recounting his previous night’s dream of getting romantic with his dog. “The worst part about it”, he said, face all pinched, “- my dog is a guy!
No, Bronson, that aint worst part. Bestiality trumps homosexuality to an extent that you can’t begin to quantify.
  3. Divorce is already rampant – how can marriage survive gays?
    • That’s your fault – we probably won’t do any better than y’all do, but we didn’t mess up what we’ve never had.
    • Bonus points: most of the homosexuals who want to marry today have been together >10 years already.
  4. It’s against God’s will
    • Strike 4: No it’s not.
(Yes it is; no it’s not; yes it is…)
    • You start legislating selectively on the basis of your correct religion, wait 5 minutes or 5 years, and they’ll be shoving their incorrect religion down your legal throat. That’s why we don’t make laws based on God’s will here in America.

Maybe life is more complicated than explanations supplied by our religions, politics, and products. Maybe cautious decency, not confident dogma, should be our approach (see blog entry on Obama’s Big Speech).

Bumper Stickers: No on 8

Hey, I designed these and ordered them last night.
You can order some too, and pack one of these stickers on your own bumper.

LOTS of people don’t know that California’s Proposition 8 proponents are rather likely to win – and take away the newly awarded rights & responsibilities of legal marriage from gay people.

Yeah, I Love My Dog, But… May 16, 2008

Is America ready to put to rest the claim that same-sex marriage must lead to inter-species marriage? This issue sparkles so brightly in the imaginations of many alarmed heterosexuals (e.g. Jerry Falwell).

Loyal, yes... but maybe not that loyal?

Loyal, yes... but maybe not THAT loyal?

And somehow this is part of the case in favor of the continuance of my second-class citizen status. Not having my marriage recognized federally makes me poorer and thus penalizes me, my husband and my children.

So let’s talk about those canine nuptials.

I’ve never heard of a homosexual hoping to marry his or her dog. And I know a lot of homosexuals. Perhaps we don’t love our pets to the same degree that these straight folks love theirs, though that is not a bad thing. Sure, we know pets make good companions, but conversations with our non-human companions about child-rearing, retirement and health care are not very fulfilling. And I don’t mean to be harsh, but I wouldn’t trust even my own Fido to enter into a meaningful contract. Yes, he’s good looking, you know, in a dog-sort-of-way. Yes, great personality. But he can’t sign his name to a contract, or even swear he means it. That’s not what dogs do.

There are many reasons I can’t imagine marrying my dog, though he is well-loved and cared for.

But as a human male who is emotionally and physically attracted exclusively to human males, I say nonetheless, that on the day that heterosexuals finally are granted the right to marry their pets, not one day before or after, gay citizens must be granted this right alongside the rest of you.

It’s only fair.

😉
